Imagine a week at work that makes you want to bang your head against your keyboard (except you don’t, because you’re a well-adjusted grown-up with decorum).
Instead, you pack up your cares and woes, take the first flight to Puerto Rico and arrive at a wooden gate leading into a tropical garden.
Your nostrils detect a hint of incense. Your ears are kissed by the sounds of trickling water. Your eyes notice woven wall hangings, a thrifted armchair, a hammock.
And that’s when you know—you’re home.
For day 6 of 100 Hotels in 100 Days, I’m having a look at Dreamcatcher by DW, a boutique hotel in in the Ocean Park neighbourhood of San Juan.
Side note: Their newsletter sign-up flow is top-notch. The way they slid into my inbox was just so smooth.
*fans self*
I have zero plans of flying to Puerto Rico, and yet there I was, punching in my email. I’m sure I would have given them my social security number, if they had asked.
And that, folks, is the power of copy.
…
…well now, let’s get down to business.
What intrigued me most about this property was its story of how its co-owner slowly turned a home into a thriving hotel.
While I couldn’t capture its entire history in a hero section, I hope I managed to sprinkle in just enough hints to entice the reader to learn more.

Without further ado, here are 10 hero sections I wrote for Dreamcatcher’s homepage. I’ve marked a few of my favourites with a ✨.

Recap
Not too shabby for 3 hours of research + writing. I do enjoy a hotel that manages to retain its original vision. In this case, I wanted to focus on its intimate feel.
Lessons
Hero sections benefit from saying less, but saying it better. It’s okay to highlight only one thing, instead of trying to squeeze in too many details and diluting the message as a result.
