Hero who? Not Spider-Man.
The hero section is the first thing a visitor sees when they land on a website.
It’s not the place to infodump. It’s not the place to talk about your mission. It’s the place to convey what sets your hotel apart and give them a reason to choose you in under 10 seconds.
After reading it, a visitor should either:
- Book a room
- Or visit a subpage (where they can take further action)
Plenty of hotels have killer visuals in their heros. But their copy?
It’s just so boooring.
They say the same old things that make them indistinguishable from other hotels.
(It gets worse when you realise that most travellers have 26 browser tabs open side by side as they’re comparing their options. So they KNOW when they’re being force-fed yet another cliché.)
But when you get your hero right, you blast through their decision fatigue, turning window shoppers into bookers. You become the obvious choice.
So here’s my plan:
I will write 1000 hero sections for hotel websites
For the next 100 days, I’m going to write 10 hero sections every day.
I’m gonna choose a hotel, and I’m gonna rewrite their homepage hero. 10 times. Some will be boutique hotels from Mr & Mrs Smith, others will be luxury hotels from around the world. Whichever one catches my eye will get a rewrite.
Okay, but whyyy?
Because I want to break into the hospitality industry. Because I want to write copy for hotels who aren’t afraid of showcasing their character. Because your hotel marketing could be so much more fun—if you can free yourself from the confines of “This is what a hotel should sound like.”
Who the heck are you??
Nobody. Which is why I’m doing this thing.
I stumbled across this party where the cool kids hang out. Except the party is the secret club of hoteliers doing epic things, and I want to put on a show for their amusement.
After every 10 hotels, you can read a digest
I’ll tell you what I’m learning and what I’m going to adjust for the next phase. You tell me which hero sections you like (or hate).
It may also include occasional updates on my sanity.
*breathing intensifies*
You can use what I wrote as inspo for your own site
That’s right. You get to swipe 1000+ headlines, subheads and CTAs from my catalogue. Bookmark the ones you liked and use it as inspiration for your own hotel’s homepage. It’s all up for grabs, babeeeey!
Tag along as I write 10 hero sections a day for 100 hotel websites—for 100 days.
